“Game Tips Part 2” by Mike Marohl
The Scholar's Scroll. Part 2
After My initial foray into the Wastes of Dunbar I did some research on that Realm. Turns out that there is quite a bit of information in the Prismatic Circles archives on the Lands of Dunbar and how they came to be known as the Wastes thereof. The following is information collected from works written by Malkeem Muckajee PCW and a few works by authors unknown.
Malkeem states that shortly after the Deaths Day Massacre several smaller battles erupted. Most of these were Necromancer versus Necromancer in an attempt to steal the valuable soul gems that were so freshly charged. A few were retaliation strikes launched by surviving dragons against Necros that were weak from battle. One of these battles was started by none other than Shagan Ne Vaal. She had gathered a respectable force and was marching on the necromancer Vaden Hendrix. She had marched her forces to within site of the capital city of Shet Fahn and set them to rest for the night. Vaden's scouts had monitored her approach and made timely reports back to him. Vaden, seeing the chance to gain more power, woke his troops and marched them to meet yet another battle. The Lord of Shet Fahn, Sugo Mori sent messengers to both Shagan and Vaden telling them to leave his lands or they both would be facing his army.
The archives have many papers written describing the battle between Shagan and Vaden the common points are listed here. Obeying their Lords orders anything that came within bow shot of the city Shet Fahn was fired upon. The forces of Shagan and Vaden clashed just after dawn and the fighting continued off and on for the next 5 days. On the 5th day it looked like the tide of the battle had swung in Vadens favor. He had hooked his claws into a Dragon Storm and it was headed straight at the city. accounts vary widely but it is apparent from the writings that the storm was one of the biggest seen to date.
Upon seeing the storm Sugo Mori ordered his catapults to open fire on anything they could hit outside of the walls of the city concentrating on the necromancers side. They fired till the storm hit then chaos broke loose. The soldiers and citizens of Shet Fahn were ordered to take shelter. Hundreds of creatures took to the sky as the storm engulfed the battle ground.
Malkeem writes that many of the structures were not sufficient to keep the effects of the storm out. Even before the storm reached the battle ground he saw several mad spawn wandering the streets. Orders came for all the wizards to report to the palace for immediate evacuation of the royal family. As Malkeem and his guard were preparing to leave the structure collapsed.
Presumably an apprentice takes over writing for Malkeem at this point. He explains that several creatures were now falling from the sky crushing buildings in the process. His master (Malkeem) had been knocked unconscious and was bleeding badly. Several apprentices tried to revive him with magic but the worst was feared. They brought his body to the palace fighting mad spawn the whole way. When they got to the palace the found the courtyard filled with all manner of creatures. There were shifters, mad spawn and Royal guard all battling. Other pages state that the palace was also hit by falling creatures and had exposed Sugo Mori to the storm and that he also was in the courtyard mad with the tox killing anything that his sword could reach.
All the papers describe the next event in great detail. A deafening crack was heard and anyone standing was knocked to the ground. Seconds later a wave of force slammed the cities walls and punched through in several locations. All of the structures within the town were leveled save some of the palace buildings. My guess is that the quick teleported, the rest died.
Normally I don't like to print information unless its supported by others but this paper was in the archives and what we have learned of wizardry and necromancy over the past 200 or so years makes what is written here possible. This one unnamed survivor writes that when he lifted his head from his hiding place. Nothing was moving, he spent some time trying to get some of his hearing back before he started to wander the city. His first significant note here is that the storm was gone and all around for miles was clear sky. The next thing he noticed was the large amount of undead wandering the streets. He took to the skies to avoid them but some lashed out with spells and other attacks. He fled the city. As he cleared what was left of the walls he saw that most of the creatures on the battle field had risen and begun to mill about. A interesting note in the paper states that none of the undead were shifters, their corpses still littered the battle area.
With what I have learned about Wizardry, Necromancy and the Storms is if at the precise moment that the Nexus of the storm was destroyed, Vaden or some other Necromancer, was casting a raise undead or risen spell the destruction of the nexus could have spread the magic for miles. If this has truely happened I must warn my Valarian friends at once, they may be in for more than they had expected.
