“Encountering Arazel Nitarou” by Mark Harmon
Arazel Nitarou is what we call a hunting necromancer. He travels throughout the stormlands in search of prey and has no set base of operations. His prey is, of course, shape shifters. A gamemaster can introduce Arazel in any number of ways. The following are possible rumors that the characters may hear about Arazel. Only the gamemaster can determine which are true and which are false.
1. Arazel is a Prismatic Wizard pretending to be a necromancer to protect himself.
2. Arazel was once a Prismatic Wizard, but has become a necromancer.
3. Arazel tries to avoid full blown Valarians because he is after easy prey.
4. Arazel has butchered many young necromancers.
5. Arazel is nearly powerful enough to try to set up a small necromancy kingdom.
6. Arazel is more interested in magic items than shape shifters.
Arazel Nitarou is a very careful man. His long term purpose is to slowly acquire power by draining young shape shifters. Once he feels strong enough he will gamble on taking on a tougher Valarian group in the hopes of gaining a great deal of power at one time. He is in no hurry to die and tends to surround himself with human, vorn and vermite mercenaries. This also allows him to play at being a merchant when it suits him.
Arazel uses his card points to carry universal, and wizardry cards. He relies on the points in his Soul Gem to perform necromancy. This allows him to choose the necromancy that he uses in each situation. It gives him more flexibility.

Ashak Vilento is Arazel's right hand man. Ashak started life as a human fighter, but has learned a great deal since then. He has been with Arazel since Arazel was a Prismatic Wizard. He learned Shamanism so that he could be of more value to Arazel.
Ashak has a deep respect for Arazel and will do anything for him. Ashak's reason for being loyal is left to the gamemaster's imagination.

The rest of Arazel's staff should be made from cast members as the gamemaster sees fit.
Gamemaster's Notes:
Arazel was a Prismatic Wizard in pursuit of knowledge. As he and Ashak traveled the stormlands they came in touch with many corrupted lands, magic items and people. The two of them acquired warp features and became warped. Arazel captured tortured and otherwise coerced a necromancer to teach him the ancient black arts of necromancy. It may be possible for the characters to Purify Arazel and Ashak. If they do this the two will be very grateful to have their minds back. On top of this the characters would gain two allies back to their side. If they choose this course, the gamemaster should give the characters a nice bonus of role-playing points. To help the characters try this we included the rumors that could be given out. The gamemaster could create a way for the character's to track down this information, maybe an old friend or family member are trying to find someone to "Heal" Arazel.
If your players ignore subtle hints and try to kill this despicable necromancer without considering the possibilities you could have Arazel's Valarian brother show up trying to get help in healing his brother. He wants to put his brother back on the path of good by Purifying him. If the characters have killed Arazel let them role-play the explanation. Sometimes it is fun to torment the characters!
